Johannes GERBERICH, 7th great grandfather of the author, was born on 9 June 1701 in the village of Altfeld by Marktheidenfeld, in Bavaria. He emmigrated from Germany through Rotterdam, arriving in Philadelphia on the ship "Phoenix" on 2 November 1752. Altfeld was a village too small to have a church, so Johannes was baptised in the Lutheran church at Michelrieth. Altfeld, Michelreith and Marktheidenfeld all are within the zipcode 97828. As can be seen in the list above, the largest concentration of the GERBERICH family in Germany is still found in this area today, almost 250 years later.
