Seeley DNA Project
Instructions for signing up
for the DNA project
The Seeley DNA Project, run by the Seeley Genealogical Society, is a y-chromosome DNA project. Details of the project are here. To be tested, you need to either be a Seeley-surnamed male, or find a living Seeley-surnamed male on your line to test.
To participate in the project:
1) Go to the web site of the testing company, DNA Heritage.
2) Under this logo at the upper right
enter the
surname "Seeley." Click "Search."
3) In the small table in the center, click on the name "Seeley" (in red)
4) Fill in the form at the bottom of the project description page. Type the "security" words in the box at the bottom, then click "Place my request."
5) That will send a message to Ken McCrea, the project director, with a request to join the project.
6) Please send an email to Ken McCrea with your lineage back to your earliest known Seeley ancestor (back to Robert or Obadiah, or other immigrant, if that is known). For lines that are not traced back to the immigrant, please give as many details on your earliest known Seeley ancestor as possible (dates, places, children, etc.). Only the earliest generation or two will be made public. Your identity will not be disclosed on the web site. Ken's email is: Ken@GermanNames.com.
7) DNA heritage will contact you about the billing for the testing. The cost of the 43 marker test that we are using is currently $189. for a participant in a surname project. The cost is $199. if you don't sign up through the surname project.
8) The Seeley Genealogical Society is currently starting a fund to pay for some testing under specific conditions. The details of this are still being determined. See the SGS web site for details.
